Los Altos is another of California's wealthiest cities. Los Altos, not to be confused with Los Altos Hills (first place), is the fourth wealthiest city in California. Los Altos, located in the center of the world-famous Silicon Valley, has tree-lined streets and a little village atmosphere. Los Altos, located 40 miles south of San Francisco, is a residential hamlet with seven minor retail districts. Little businesses, schools, libraries, and churches dot the seven-square-mile city.

The majority of the city's expansion happened between 1950 and 1980. Once an agricultural hamlet with many summer cottages and apricot orchards, Los Altos is now an upscale bedroom community on Silicon Valley's western outskirts, serving as a key source of commuters to other sections of the valley.

Steve Jobs and Steve Wozniak, co-founders of Apple, constructed the first 50 Apple I computers in Jobs' garage in Los Altos in 1976.

In 2004, Judy Fusco rented her Los Altos home, often dubbed "Casa Facebook," to Mark Zuckerberg; there, he and a few other pals grew Facebook from 200,000 to 2.5 million members before relocating to nearby Palo Alto, CA.
