The Clock Tower (17th century)
The Clock Tower is the most remarkable monument by which Bitola is identified. It is located in the center of Bitola where the Clock Tower dominates the space because of its height. Although there is no record for its construction, it is believed that it was built during Ottoman ruling at the same time as the Yeni Mosque in the 16th century.
The Clock Tower is 33 meters high, and it was constructed onto a square base. There are semi-circle entrance and interior. There are spiral stone stairs on the north side. The Clock Tower has three floors, and its mechanism is on the highest floor and there are clocks on all four sides. At the top is a small cupola which offers a wonderful panorama of the city of consuls and wider surrounding. The park around the tower is the place where inhabitants gather and light candles along the lawn and pavement on Christmas Eve.
