The oldest public garden in Bucharest, it is set in the city center, has an area of about 16 hectares and is bordered by two important thoroughfares: Regina Elisabeta Boulevard and Schitu Magureanu Boulevard. In 1847 the landscape gardener Wilhelm Mayer, the former director of the Imperial Gardens in Vienna was commissioned to transform the insalubrious land from that area into a beautiful garden. The Cismigiu Garden is arranged in the kind of English parks and has several entrances.
