A Natural History museum, it is one of the oldest research institutions in the field of biodiversity and public education. Originally established as the National Museum of Natural History on 3 November 1834, it was renamed in 1933 after the biologist Grigore Antipa who had administrated the museum for 51 years.The heritage of the museum is made up of over 2 million pieces, grouped in ethnographic collections, also in various zoological, paleontological, mineral and rock collections. The museum sometimes hosts temporary exhibitions of great success, such as the Human Body Anatomy.
