National Park Mavrovo

The National park Mavrovo covers the upper flow of the river Radika in the northwest parts of the Republic of Macedonia.

It occupies the south slopes of Shar Mountain, western and central part of the Bistra Mountain as well as parts of the mountain massif Korab.

It is at 500 meters altitude in the valley of the river Radika up to the highest peak Golem Korab at 2764 meters altitude therefore the gorge sides are up to 2000 maters height.

The central part of the national park covers the valley and the river basin of Radika, there are numerous gorges, steeps, differently shaped rocks, caves, waterfalls.

The extraordinary relief difference and various ecological conditions created extraordinary flora abundance.

There are more then 1000 species of tall plants and 100 of them are rare and endemic in the Balkan Peninsula.

There are 38 species of herbaceous plants, 35 species shrubby plants and numerous species of herbaceous communities.
